The Game You Can Win Every Time
Are you the type of person who can play a game just for the enjoyment? Can you invest hours in a game of monopoly and be happy to come away bankrupt first? If so, hat tip.
Most of us mere mortals usually play to win and are devastated to lose.
In the game of life, winning can be defined every which way. But on a basic level though, I’m sure you would agree that to be your authentic self is a win?
You won’t derive much joy in the long run from just copying whoever or whatever is the zeitgeist. If you’re in the game for the long haul then it’s much easier, healthier and enjoyable to be the best version of you.
Thankfully, being yourself is a game you can win 100% of the time. Why?
Nobody can speak exactly like you. No one can write exactly like you. Thankfully in my case at least nobody can (or should attempt to) sing exactly like me.
Take some examples and consider what will happen if we just copy the competition:
Goal: I want to speak like Barack Obama.
Harsh Reality: He will win every time.
Goal: I want to write like Stephen King.
Harsh Reality: He will win every time.
Goal: I want to sing like Beyoncé.
Harsh Reality: She will win every time.
Better to reframe things this way:
Goal: I want to speak like me.
Reality: You will win every time
Goal: I want to write like me.
Reality: You will win every time
Goal: I want to sing like me.
Reality: You will win every time
When you speak, write, sing, paint, vlog, podcast, (enter your medium here) like you, you will win every single time. So why try and imitate the "best" and end up in second, third, thousandth place?
Be number one. Be You.
